Joyland

Luke has said all year he wanted to do three things this summer: go to Joyland, go to Joyland, and finally, go to Joyland. If he got to do that, then the summer would be a success and he would be happy. For those of you who have not had the wonderful experience, Joyland is our local amusement park. It is fairly small -- more like a traveling carnival that doesn't travel. It's a nice addition to the things-to-do list and so since Jana's mom was staying the week, we decided to take advantage of her offer to keep Grace and accomplish Luke's sole goal for the summer.

Here's the results:

Did I mention that Jana does not like the queasy rides? Did I mention the only reason there is not a picture of me like this is that I won't even get on the queasy rides? (And Jana doesn't know how to use Photoshop?)

Might I add that I look remarkably like the bad witch in The Wizard of Oz? ("Come here, me pretty . . .)

However, that shade of green does represent how I was feeling by the end of the afternoon. After twirling and swirling, I felt sicker than a dog. Only love for a 6 year old boy kept me spinning . . .!

What is the deal with this queasy, dizzy thing anyway? It appears to be just one more thing to add to my list of things I don't like about aging. Apparently, the older you get, the less capable you are of handling the slightest spin. Weird!

I told Jana I could make her look even MORE like the Wicked Witch, black hat and all, but she didn't take me up on the offer.

Rob, it's rude to make your wife green. Especially if she is green due to being a mommy -- which tends to turn women green on a regular basis for various and sundry reasons.

Jana, I like to think of it less that age is making me unable to handle such things, as it is that WISDOM is keeping me from feeling like I have to prove myself to anyone. Fortunately, my kids aren't much into spinning and twirling and up and down rides, so I'm fairly safe. They are insisting that I go off the high dive, though. Nope. Not me.
